Since 3rd grade, Autumn had been the brunt of jokes, teasing, and just plain meanness among her peers, because of her size. She has always been a healthy child, but a noticeable difference in her weight really showed itself between 3rd and 4th grade. Because of her rapid weight gain we thought sure that her problem was medical. We did our due diligence to find out what it was, and found nothing. Autumn's issues were not medical, it was something else. Desperate to help her, we made all the typical mistakes parents make; diets, deprivation of sweets, starches, carbohydrates - you name it we tried it. In our frenzy, we realized that this was clearly not working because what we needed was a life changing solution not a short term band aid. That's when I found CCF.
I knew that with all the praying I was doing for an answer, CCF was the answer. There are many camps that offer activities, sports and sisterhood for girls, and even camps that promise to help a camper lose weight, but there was no camp like CCF! What attracted us, Autumn included, was the fact that this program was not about losing weight, it was about teaching self empowerment to these young ladies through education, love, kindness, support mixed in with a lot of fun, and of course some hard work that no one complained about. That's right, the girls did not complain about the early morning workouts, or the afternoon power walks in 100 degree weather.
Autumn absolutely loved it. She went last year, she had just turned 11 years old, had never been away from us except to spend the night at a friend’s house, and she on her own decided to stay 6 weeks. Before we sent Autumn to camp, we met with the Romeo Doctors, and of course the lovely Shawna. We were very impressed with their knowledge, dedication to this idea to empower our children with the knowledge necessary to be healthier, happier, well-adjusted and confident young females. It made sense! Rather than approach health from a "fat" vs. "skinny" way of the world, which is symptomatic of something much deeper, they skipped all of that nonsense and got to the core.
When we came to visit her half way through her session (2 1/2 weeks), we were beside ourselves, our little girl was beaming from ear to ear, and absolutely gorgeous. I could not hold back the tears. She looked different not just physically, but you could see it in her attitude, her expression and her smile, how she was feeling about herself. I have to admit I was not expecting that much of a change. I admittedly expected some weight loss, but to my surprise what I experienced was a happier, calmer, self-confident young lady. The way she talked, moved, everything....just better. The change in her self-confidence to me was probably the best gift we could have gotten from CCF.
Autumn has kept the weight off, has grown two more inches in height and up one shoe size, and still happy, confident and continues to refer to her knowledge gained at CCF and applies it to her life daily. She's now playing sports she's never dreamed of playing before because she had to "run"; running is no longer a problem! We're talking about one of the he most stubborn people on the planet, my daughter Autumn, and for her to make these kinds of changes is nothing short of a miracle.
Autumn plans on being there again this coming summer to continue her path. Hopefully she will have a chance to meet your daughter there too.
Good luck and God Bless,
Marie
