Camp Directors
|
The directors of Camp California Fitness
are dedicated to the health and fitness education of children
so they can make positive changes in their lives. Over forty
percent of adults in our society are overweight and suffering
from diseases and illness due to obesity. Since childhood obesity
frequently leads to adulthood obesity, we believe that education
is the foundation of change. The knowledge gained empowers the
girls to make positive changes in their lives; changes which
promote health and minimize their risks of the long term health
consequences of obesity. With obesity being strongly associated
with such chronic diseases as heart disease, diabetes, vascular
disease, hypertension, arthritis, depression, eating disorders
and many others, obesity is one of the fastest growing health
problems of the 21st century. Camp California Fitness is aligning
itself with people like you who are interested in long term cures
to this deadly problem.
Shawna Rocha
Shawna is an integral part of the energetic heart of Camp California Fitness.
She graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in
Social Psychology and has made the journey toward health and wellness her personal
calling. Having struggled with weight issues, Shawna has felt the societal pressures
to be thin and the stigma associated with being overweight. Through her journey
of self-discovery, Shawna learned to focus on healthy living rather than external
expectations. She learned to like the person looking back at her in the mirror
and she has remained tireless in her efforts to help others do the same. Immersing
herself into the study of health and fitness, she became a fitness instructor
certified by the International Sports Science Association with numerous specific
certifications such as sports nutrition, water therapy, knee and back injuries,
and youth fitness. She maintains a busy schedule as a professional fitness trainer
and certified aerobics instructor and has added a Master’s in Fitness certificate
to her growing resume. Shawna reaches out to the community regularly with a periodic
health and fitness column she writes for a local newspaper and has been seen
as a participant and presenter at health and fitness seminars across the United
States. She finds it particularly satisfying to work with young people who struggle
with building strong foundations for healthy living. Shawna humbly credits her inspirational peers and mentors for fostering this desire to assist others in their journeys of self-discovery.
